Lei Zhang

visting PhD student

Lei Zhang is a visiting PhD scholar in the Law of the Sea under the supervision of Prof. Nele Matz-Lück.

She received her Master of Law in June 2013 at the Ocean University of China. At present, she is a PhD candidate in the Law of the Sea at the Zhejiang University, China. Her PhD project is focused on the Marine Protected Areas on the High Seas.

Dr. Chie Sato spends her sabbatical leave as a visiting scholar at the Institute for International Law since April 2018. Her research topics focus mainly on the modernization of international legal frameworks regarding the protection of the marine environment. She is especially interested in the ongoing discussion on drafting a new international treaty for the protection of marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction at the UN and the EU’s position on this issue.

She graduated from the Faculty of Law at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo (LL.B and LL.M) and received her LL.M and LL.D at Philipps-Universität Marburg. After working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan and Hamburg for several years, she teaches European Law and Public International Law at Meiji University, School of Law in Tokyo since 2011.

Dr. Julia Wojnowska-Radzińska

Dr. Julia Wojnowska-Radzińska is visiting the WSI from 1 March until 31 May 2019. Her research topics focus mainly on the mass surveillance of personal data, secrecy and national security. She is especially interested in the ongoing discussion on the balance between data protection versus national security.

She is an assistant professor at the Chair of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, and a former expert for legislation at the Bureau of Research of the Chancellery of the Polish Sejm in Warsaw. She teaches constitutional law, international human rights law, European Migration Law and antidiscrimination law.
